Email to Garmin CEO

I just sent a second email to the Garmin CEO, which will probably be read and actioned on by a staff member. But it will be interesting to see what response I get this time.

  • It had nothing to do with any product WR rating. When you come on a forum and your 2nd post here is a cynical comment towards people you don’t know and have nothing to actually contribute towards the conversation, then yes it’s trolling.

It’s amazing the “Internet Courage” some people have ;D
  • I'm not sure why profundatis is a troll just for making a valid point.

The specs for the HRM-Tri while stating that the water rating is 5 ATM, provide a link to what Garmin's water ratings mean and that 5 ATM is unsuitable for Scuba diving.

I am a little worried about this page, though, https://www.garmin.com/en-US/legal/w...ng-definitions , as it shows that Garmin can't correctly convert pressure to depth in seawater.

I saw the depth rating, and loved the graphic I ran across on the Garmin website that told me to use a dive HRM transmitter. Which of course Garmin does not sell. Anyway, I dive a dry suit so I am not real worried about water getting into the HRM-Tri. But once again Garmin is selling a feature that really does not work correctly, ignoring the Store and Lack of Forward, they tell you that the Descent tracks your heart rate using optical or via a chest strap but then fail to offer a chest strap that is rated for the pressures of a deeper dive in a wetsuit.
  • Don't worry about Odie, he is a member of Professional Association of Millennial Instructors (PAMI) where facts don't matter if you feel strong about the topic.

To water ratings, they are confusing, but not incorrect. Units used are atm and not ata which indicates hydrostatic pressure and not the absolute one
  • I saw the depth ratings and ran across one page that said we should use a Scuba HRM chest strap, which of course Garmin does not offer. Anyway I always wear a drysuit here in Monterey, so the depth rating is not really that important as the unit should not see water under pressure.

That page of legal definitions is very troubling, I guess their "Dive Experts" were not there that day as this entire table is a mess and grossly incorrect. I tried posting an corrected version, but this forum software will not let me.

What is the dive center you allegedly work for?

  • What is the dive center you allegedly work for?

And what is your dive experience?
  • And what is your dive experience?

6000 dives over 27 years, including some over 120m.

    .

Water vapor under pressure is far more detrimental than simple immersion. HRM-Tri is not meant for diving in any form.

Sure and I’m the Executive Director of “Insert Agency Here”. I could really care less how much experience you supposedly have, as on the Internet with a little research, you could be a anyone. If Garmin privately messaged me and asked me for my agency and professional certification number because they’d like my feedback on future software or model releases, then I would give them that information. But to you (as you asked it earlier) negative...as you’re a nobody, a nobody that came on this forum, with your internet courage and insulted “dive professionals” as you put it over a stupid HR monitor...as your 2nd post on this forum.

That said, I’ve said what I had to say and I’m done talking to you. If you actually participate and have “useful” things to contribute to this forum, great. If not..well yeah...

And yet, you can't even research to an OWD level.

if they ever want to make truly foolproof device, I can't think of a more suitable candidate.
