Descent MK1 - Maps update: Routable Cycle Map Europe 2018.10

Recording of activities takes very little space so it doesn't matter that you 'only' have one gig left.

There is really enough free space on Descent MK1 to record future activities, but I am still worrying if the upgrade goes through OK, because those strange file names are not common.

That's why I'm wondering if anyone else has a similar experience with the upgrade!

Mine only has the U.S. map cycle / U.S. topo 100k but still has 7.83gb of 14.4gb free and no out of place files like was you see. I know this most likely dose not help seeing I don't have the Europe map.

Obviously there are major differences in cartography on the European and American version of the Descent MK1. And this update, which took up almost all of the empty space, was made only on the EU version.

That's why I hope that an owner of the European version of Descent MK1 shares his experiences with us.

can you tell me how update maps inside descent mk1 ?

Plug into computer and run Garmin Express. Check for updates.

I just tried to update my maps via Garmin Express. This worked fine for a few maps but for 2 maps GE tells me that my storage space on the computer is too small. I have enough storage space on my computer (PC) therefore I think this can only mean my Descent, correct? How does the update work in this situation? When I disconnect my device from my PC it says "loading maps"... ?

I have already made the firmware update to 4.00.

In fact, it's obvious that somewhere in MK1 some temporary files occupy a lot of space.

Attach MK1 to PC and copy the contents of all MK1 directories (also hidden ones!), to PC (backup MK1 to PC). Backup should have between 14 and 16GB (if less, repeat the process!)

All files with maps are in the Garmin directory and have extensions .img, .sum, .unl and .gma. If any directory except Garmin contains files larger than 100MB which do not have an .fit extension, delete them from MK1.

If anything goes wrong after restarting the MK1, copy the deleted files from PC backup back to MK1.
