How do I transfer Suunto Dives to Garmin Connect?

My MK1 has finally arrived. Is there a step by step for transfer Suunto DM5 to Garmin Connect? Doesn't seem like there's a thread for this specifically yet?
  • I don't believe that is possible other than doing it manually for each dive.

If you wrote a program to convert the Suunto dive data to FIT files you may be able to do it that way.
  • If you are just looking to combine the data from the Suunto and the Garmin, there are a number of applications that will let you do that (although some haven't added support for the Garmin just yet):

    https://subsurface-divelog.org/
    http://www.mac-dive.com/
  • I've tried downloading out of Movescount as a .fit file, then uploading into GC. Garmin fails it every time.
  • If you look at how Garmin has handled other activities with their products in the past, they will most likely not be making Connect a full featured dive log. Think if it more as a dive log light. I suspect that Garmin will do what they already do with cycling and running, which is provide a conduit to automatically sync these activities with Strava or another site that focuses on specific activities. I agree with atj777, look into the sites like
    http://www.divinglog.de/
    https://subsurface-divelog.org/
    http://www.mac-dive.com/

Personally I use Subsurface, though I will admit that while the Garmin Descent is my everyday wear watch, it is my backup dive computer. I sync my Shearwater Perdix to Subsurface.
  • I think Garmin should add a way to import dive log files (csv, zxu, dl7, text, dlg….) when you buy a dive computer from oceanic, Suunto… you can download and use their soft where. logging dives is drilled in to the new diver’s head as a most do thing. so, when you can't keep your log book all in one place and nice and clean I feel that some people may use it as a point to not get this computer.
I have had my MK1 for about two weeks now (have not logged a dive yet due to gear being in the shop) I am replacing a Fenix 3 and will be using this computer along with an oceanic atom 2 air. Seeing that a Fenix 5x goes for about $600 and a non-air integrated mixed gas wrist computer is about $350-500 I am a little disappointed that we can’t just upload our log books and call it a day. Don’t take that the wrong way it is still an amazing price of technology and for land-based activities has worked very well for me. The ant+ sensors on my bike do drop out from time to time but other than that it seems to work well. For anyone that has been diving a lot will for the most part hit a point where they kind of stop counting and if asked how many dives they will just say a lot. I have, like a good little OCD diver have added all my paper dives in to oceanlog and am just a bit butt hurt that I can’t move them over but it is not a big deal. Exporting to a 3rd party would be fine too.

Why don't you just keep using the Oceanlog software?
  • Or move everything to a third party dive log software like Subsurface or Divelog? Garmin does not appear to have plans to make Connect a full featured divelog anyway, and will eventually support exports to some third party package. Right now I export cycling activities from Connect to Strava, and I have noticed any dives are being exported as a generic activity. Strava has no idea what to do with them, and just displays an activity for the length of the dive.

Has anyone found a way (official, hack or workaround) to accomplish this yet? While I agree that the non-Garmin dive logs are better, its still nice to have everything in one place for general reference. I am a pilot and a runner also and although I log my flights elsewhere, it's still nice to see all my "activities", even if only at a very generic level, in one place.

There looks to be a bunch of code libraries in various languages to deal with FIT files so perhaps if there is some interest I'll tackle converting the Suuntu FIT exports to one that Garmin can import.
  • I have been trying to import all my .fit from Movescount into Garmin CIQ and I always receive the same error message
  • Try exporting an MK1 dive as a .fit file. Then export a movescount dive as a .fit file. These files are just XML files (possibly zipped), and there might be some subtle differences that make the movescount file not importable into connect. You might have to edit that file in a text editor, matching the fields in the MK1 file.
