Export TCX file of diving activity from Garmin Connect

I assume that once you complete a dive with the MK1 and the activity is uploaded to Garmin Connect that you are able to export the activity to a TCX file as with any other activity from a Garmin device.

Is my assumption correct?

Could someone make a TCX file available for me to look at? I would prefer one with metric units but will take US units if that's all that is available.

Your assumption is not correct. Not every activity type can be exported to TCX, as the TCX format is not suited for handling certain types of activities. I don't have the MK1 so cannot confirm it for you, but I just created a manual dive activity in garmin connect, and the only export option is "export original", which exports to a fit file. "Export to TCX" is grayed out.

TCX files are just XML and so can be pretty much made to do anything if Garmin so wish.The log of a dive is the perfect application for XML. A manually created dive is going to be missing a huge chunk of information that the MK1 would create.

I'll wait to hear from actual MK1 users.

Curious to find out myself, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
The current XML schema for TCX (http://www8.garmin.com/xmlschemas/Tr...Databasev2.xsd) does not include any structures to hold dive data. Sure, one could use a custom extension, which - as you noticed - could hold any kind of data. But that would require Garmin to develop a schema for the extension, and since I believe that TCX is somewhat abandoned in favour of FIT, I would not expect Garmin to do anything about it. But, hey, who knows.

Just out of curiosity: Why do you need a TCX file? Is it for viewing the raw data outside of Garmin Connect?

I have my own dive logging software and I geotag all my photographs - mainly for depth information. I import the dive data into the application and then export a GPX file with the lat and long of my entry point plus depth as negative altitude for each interval recorded by the dive watch/computer. The GPX file can then be used directly in Lightroom to tag every photograph. I also use the data for other purposes but this is the main one.

It could be done with a FIT file but is going to take a lot more programming and from looking at the SDK will probably require me to use a Windows VM on my Mac. Reading a text file is much easier and XML is so easy to parse.

If I had a "real dive" FIT file, I would try this:

- I would try to import FIT file on STRAVA

I've done a bit of programming with the SDK using Qt to build the UI, and that cross compiles happily across Windows, Mac and Ubuntu, so you might not need the VM.

Thanks, I'll look into Qt as a possible alternative.

At the moment I'm looking at Subsurface as a conduit once it supports the MK1. It's missing some data - "dive end time" and "dive end location" - but hopefully I can get them to add that.

Descent MK1 - missing Depth graph at Diving activities
On https://connect.garmin.com i can't see Depth graph (there are only HR and Temp graphs), but on Garmin Connect Mobile I can see 3 graphs - Depth, HR and Temp!

Is this normal? Someone else has the same problem?
