Dive Mode: True North vs. Magnetic North (Compass)

I noticed this while playing with this and I tried various different areas and also compared to several ABC watches I had in the house. The standard compass on the Fenix 5/Descent line allows for you to choose between Magnetic North or True North. But I’m noticing the compass in the “Dive” mode, only reflects “True North”.

There should be an option in the “Dive Settings” to choose between Magnetic or True North. I’m a Dive Instructor and one of the big allures to me going with this watch was the underwater compass options with the Direct Bearing, Recp. Course, etc for guiding students but their compasses will reflect Magnetic North, while the MK1 reflects True North.

    Now if I could only get the 2.50 software, Connect tells me that 2.30 is the most current and there are no updates at this time. Though this is how phased rollouts work.....


    Everyone should have access to the newest software at this point. Were you able to update to 2.50?

    I'm on 2.30 and see nothing about an update in Garmin Connect Mobile.

    Due to the issue you are reporting in the other thread, can you please plug in your Descent and update it with Express?
    The update uploads in the background of your phone. If the phone is busy with other things, like your big dives upload, or having problem with speeds then it will take longer than normal.

    I don't trust Express. The last time I used it I lost syncing with my phone for 2 days!

    The update uploads in the background of your phone. If the phone is busy with other things, like your big dives upload, or having problem with speeds then it will take longer than normal.

    There's nothing else happening on the phone. I normally close every app other than Garmin Connect Mobile and Music. There are no big dives being uploaded and no problems with Internet speeds.

    Where can we find the changes that the updates made. I was on 2.3 and now it has been updated to 2.5. I can only find the changes between 2.4 and 2.5

    So... it appears I have 2.50 but I received no notification. Shouldn’t I have been prompted or at least have been told?

    Auto update is on but I would think I’d get a notification.

    This one is interesting:
    Disabled automatic updates in preparation for an upcoming release that will include changes to the dive experience.


    After the automatic upgrade to 2.50 on my Descent, Auto Update was enabled.

    I wonder if it is the fix to End Dive Delay and/or changes to NDL display.
