I'm really interested in the MK1.
Can anyone answer me the following question?

Have i understood it right, that the MK1 is the fenix 5x with a dive mode added (disregarding changes to the materials and power plug)?

Thank you in advance.

Yes and no. As I understand it the Descent is based on the fenix 5x, however there do exist other internal hardware differences besides the case and plug style. For example, the barometer has to have a much higher usable range.

From a usability standpoint you're correct. As far as I'm aware this has all the above-water functionality (Mapping, Fitness Tracking, App compatibility) as the F5.

Thank you both for your answers.
Yes, i actually meant the "usability standpoint"; of course, the hardware may be different.
  • I've not previously used any of the current Garmin products, so not at all familiar with the Fenix range, but being an avid diver I'm really interested in the Descent MkI.

When comparing the Mk1 to the Fenix 5X using Garmin's product comparison, the glaring difference (other than diving, of course) is that the Descent Mk1 misses out on "Auto multisport" and "Manual multisport" activities, and cardio and strength workout features.

These sounds like features that I would use in gym sessions, but having not used any of the Garming wrist products, are they actually useful features that I would be missing out on, or just a gimmick feature? If they are useful, can they be added back in as IQ apps?

    Thx.
