How does S40 measure distance of approach shot that lands on green?

Given the S40 can't recognise putts, how does it register how far the last approach shot that hit the green was?

The S40 does seem to be able to detect putts to some degree, just not nearly as accurately as fairway shots. So while it's not tracking the putts likely due to this accuracy, it's still good enough to detect you're putting. I doubt it's just that you stopped at your ball since it wouldn't know the difference of you stopping at your ball, or anywhere else on the green.

This is where at least a single CT10 on your putter comes in really handy. With that, it does have a great deal of accuracy with the putter, so will also be more accurate for your last fairway hit.
