It doesn't usually take me 3 holes to get satellite, but it quite a bit slower than my 935. I usually turn it on as I approach the practice range. I've also found it can help if it doesn't find it within a couple minutes, to start over. Obviously that isn't a good option if you've already started your round.
I have the S40 since 2 weeks and I fully agree to you.
I´ve never had golf device that takes more time to find satelites. Even the S1,S2 were much faster - that´s 10 years ago.
Not quite 3 holes but I have the same problem with the S40 locating satellites. I sometimes need to resort to powering down the watch and restarting it to get it to find my local course.
Did you see the update notes for sw 3.5?
- Improved GPS acquisition times for customers that have paired S40 to their mobile phone.
Yes, I would say it´s now faster then before
I'm still only showing 3.40 in the Garmin Express app. How long does it take for the update to roll out fully?
Updated now and it is a lot faster.
It happened to me after updating to SW3.6. It took very long to find course. Sometime the signal was lost. My watch was a brick now.
Did you sync with Garmin Connect or the Golf app after updating? You should make sure you have a file called CPE.BIN in your Garmin\RemoteSW folder on the device that is recent. It should update regularly when you sync and contains data for 1 to 2 weeks of satellite position information. Without this, GPS acquisition is likely to be slow.
What do you mean by "watch was a brick now"? Have you tried power cycling it?
Hi Ekutter, Thank you. Yes I did sync golf app and Garmin Connect. I saw the file CPE.BIN in remote SW folder.
This week, I played 3-4 golf course. My watch showed locating satellites for hours until I finished my game.
My watch had happened in this case for 4 months ago. I sent back to Garmin shop to repair. Sometime, it found the course. I played for 4-5 holes. Seem to be signal lost, the watch was able to detect shot distance.
If you have important file or the solution, please send it to me.
Kind regards,
Bell
