700i Sensitivity

So I am on a plane 737, middle seat

My 700i gets no GPS signal but my phone sees 10 GPS and 9 European (I forget the name). Why is my phone more sensitive than the GPS?

Might be a matter of antenna orientation? I assume the 700i unit works normally with an open sky view?
