750i learning pains

Bought a montana 750i, coming from an inreach Explorer, I have a multitude of tracks

from that device that I would like to relay to my new device.

I exported GPX file from my computer with the tracks from my old unit, emailed it to myself and imported it onto my montana and it will not overlay my old tracks onto my gps. Is this normal?

Also, yesterday on my first trip tracking with my unit, I created a track roughly 100km long, and it tracked all day, even map shared to multiple people. Then this morning yesterday's track is removed from my device. Is this normal.

Am I normal?

  • The GPX files you copied from you inReach explorer should be visible under Saved Tracks in the main menu, assuming you copied the files to the Garmin\GPX folder on the device.

By default saved tracks are not shown on the map. You can display individual tracks on the map by opening the track from Saved Tracks, selecting menu and enabling Show On Map.

    See https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=CSwUyNHZJF23gX4LY9R5m6 for more info.

Note that the Montana does both tracking (periodically sending your location to the satellite network) and activity recording (saving a detailed log locally on your device). Recorded Activities are stored in a format called FIT by default. If you need the GPX file, you can either convert a previously recorded activity, or you can configure the device to save activities in both FIT and GPX format.  You can find this setting under Setup > Recording > Advanced Setup > Output Format.
