I installed the 32gb micro SD in the unit. The silver mounting bracket fell out, and I put the card in and put the bracket over it.
In Basecamp, I don't see the memory card. Will it show there? If it should and isn't, any suggestions?

Basecamp should read the card, but it could be it only does so if there are actually any maps on it (not 100% sure though).
Did you format the card with the correct filesystem? Only FAT32 is supported, any other file system isn’t.
And does Garmin Express detect the SD card when you go to Manage Maps?
It's formatted FAT32. No, Garmin Express doesn't see the memory card.
It was installed with contacts up, to match the unit's contacts. I guess the GPS is defective?
It does not necessarily mean the Montana is defective.
Maybe you could try a different memory card to see if that works? And also make sure your micro SD card matches the requirements as stated in Memory Card Size Requirements for Garmin Outdoor Handhelds as the device can be quite picky. Or try reseating the SD card making sure the contacts are aligned properly.
Or you could try adding an free openstreetmap based map (for example freizeitkarte) to the SD card: put the .img file in a folder called GARMIN and see if that map is detected by the Montana.
It's a 32 Gig Sandisk. I looked at it with Windows file explorer, and can see it, so I think the card is good.
The silver bracket was loose, and I think I've installed the card with the bracket OK. Could it be that silver bracket?
I haven't downloaded maps from that site yet. They're large, will take a long time.
It was the seating of the card. I played around with it, and it now works.
Thanks for all your help!
