Montana 700 problems in motorcycling

There are a couple of different problems with the 7x0i.

One of them specifically has to do with the cradle and use on a motorcycle. IMO, this one is a design problem. The cradle/unit contacts are eventually damaged by vibration. I don't Garmin plans to redesign it.

The other seems to be a recurring problem where the unit randomly turns off by itself. This one went for long, long time with no fix from Garmin. Frankly, I've now lost track of whether there ever WAS a firmware fix... Garmin-Leslie Was there a fix for that one? (I don't see it on the firmware release notes.)

You can try opening a support ticket.

I already made a claim. Now I'm waiting for their answer to that.

I own an 700 with the mount ref 010-12881-01 (no power supply) and mine also shuts down itself. It's updated to the latest version and the issue still persist.

Did you get a solution? I contacted Garmin Support by email, but they didn't reply.

Based on forum reports, email is a black hole. If you have a choice, use chat or phone. 

I rather suspect the ticket is going nowhere anyhow. Since Garmin-Leslie has not replied, I am assuming the the problem has not been fixed. There is speculation that it is a hardware problem and never WILL be fixed.

They sent me a new mount with a power supply and spare parts kit (whatever it is, I'm not sure). But at least they sent a link to instructions how to install the mount damper kit. Link: How to Install Replacement Montana 7xx Series Mount Dampers. I think the kit is the same for the power supply and no power supply mounts. Maybe that helps, I'm not at all sure about it.

The "spare parts kit"  has not arrived yet so I can't say is it a Damper kit or what.

To get a contact to Garmin Support is best to do by phone, then they'll ask for more info and pics by mail. They are not very quick (or keen?) to answer the emails. I'm still waiting the answer to my another matter (a claim) which I made almost a week ago.

This is the "other problem" - the one that relates specifically damage to the mount and resulting shutdowns. My comment was with regard to the "unexplained shutdowns NOT involving the mount".

Yes, I've got that "unexplained shutdowns NOT involving the mount" problem too. No answers from Garmin yet!!

IF you get an answer, please post back. Garmin is conspicuously silent on this issue. Which always makes me paranoid.

I've had in the past some cases when the company which product is faulty and the company is not responding. The a week or two after my original claim I've contacted them and sent the claim made by Finnish Consumer Protection Authorities.

Every time I've got some answer within days. So... wait and see.
