Resume tracking after shutdown

Rode a long backcountry moto trip today. Shut off moto multiple times and missed the shutdown prompt.  Upon restart of moto, tracking did not restart and had to manually go to Recording Controls and restart (press play) tracking. This happened over ten times.  Lots of straight cyan lines on the map.

There doesn't seem to be a clear definitive way to check if tracking is on other than squinting at the corner to see if mileage is increasing (difficult sometimes when challenged by geography).  The auto pause (<1.5 mph) message pops up then goes away after a few seconds on the M7x0. Contrast to the Edge bicycle computer there is a glaring pair of yellow vertical lines (pause) in the middle of the screen and the edge goes yellow. This keeps coming back over and over on the Edge (grrr).

There has to be some kind of middle ground ie. just yellow borders when on pause, easy to see and recognizable.  The only other indication that tracking isn't working on the M7x0 is a long cyan line from the last time the unit restarted.

Tracking always resumed on my Montana 600 and 680t without fail.

Is there any way for tracking to restart without fail on the 7x0 after shutdown?

  • I guess you have the Auto Start setting for Recording set to Off (Setup > Recording > Auto Start)? In that case you indeed need to manually start recording when the device turns on again.

As a workaround you could set this setting to On, then the unit will always start recording your activity automatically.

If you want to check if the device currently recording your activity, you can go to the Status Page by pressing the power button, then select Activity Recording. The first tab (with the play/pause icon) will show you the status.

  • Thanks Jim,

Will try that out on the next ride.
