Deal All,

I own a garmin montana 750i. I thought I have seen a possibility to download more map details to show e.g. forest tracks or gravel roads, but I cannot remember where I have seen this or how to do that. the submenu in which I can choose the level of detail shown (e.g. normal, less etc) is not what I mean..

    This is amazingly complicated now that Outdoor Maps+ has appeared on the 7x0i.  

    LEGACY BIRDSEYE WITHOUT SUBSCRIPTION:

    The 7x0i comes with the ability to download BirdsEye satellite imagery without the need for an added subscription. (This built-in option did not include USGS raster topos. There was a separate subscription for that. No idea if that is still available or if Outdoor Maps+ subscription is the only option.)

    This used to be a stand-alone, easily found option. No longer. Now it is tangled up with Outdoor Maps+. This is explained (sort of) here:

    That article does not tell the entire story. I could not find a "download satellite imagery" option. Instead, I had to request an Outdoor Maps+ download, then edit the layer set to include only the imagery. (This imagery is USGS satellite imagery and is in the public domain.) I have an Outdoor Maps+ subscription, so I don't actually KNOW that this is the right place for satellite imagery if you do not have the subscription...)

    OUTDOOR MAPS+ SUBSCRIPTION - which is probably what you want:

    All other maps REQUIRE an Outdoor Maps+ subscription. You can download those from the same place: Map Manager > Outdoor Maps+ > +Add. You need a WiFi connection for this. When you tap +Add, you will be taken to the Where To? page. Use this page to select the area for which you want additional maps. 

    For example, tap the Use Map icon to use the map page to select the area. Pan and zoom to the area for which you want maps. To control just which layers you will download, tap the Pencil icon in the dashboard at the top of the map. Turn layers on or off. You can also change the storage target (internal memory or SD card) here. Tape the back button when done. Then tap Download to actually get the maps and place them on the device.
