Creating Waypoint on a saved track?

I have loaded on the Montana 700i a track previously created on the PC. Driving following that track During I tried to create a Waypoint pressing the touch screen with my finger in the point that I would like to insert the WP. But it seems it doesn't work because it doesn't appear any window to write the name of the WP.

what I'm wrong?

I don't think this actually marks a waypoint. It drops a pin and opens a dashboard for the pin. But I think that's all it does.

Directions in the manual for marking from the map appear to be incorrect. The only way I could find to do this was to tap the dashboard. This opens a page with additional info and a big green GO button. It also has an options menu (hamburger) in the lower right corner. Tap there and you have the option to Save as Waypoint. If you tap that option, it will tell you that the waypoint was saved and shows the automatic name. Tap OK. Back to the map page showing the pin/waypoint. Tap the dashboard (again). Open the options menu (again). You now have the option to edit the waypoint. Tap that to make changes.

I suspect that the steps vary according to f/w version. YMMV.

It's seem strange that it is not possible to insert a WP just touching the screen. In an older Grmin model it was working so fine!!!

I think once you have tapped on the screen to mark a pin there should be three horizontal bars menu icon at the bottom of the screen that will then give you an option to save as a waypoint and then edit the name, hope this helps

Thanks Andy. Unfortunately Montana 700 doesn't allow to do it so easily. If I touch the screen a PIN appears but the 3 horizontal bars do not include the possibility to use it as a WP. It's very strange!

Hi Alberto, apologies I don't have a Montana unit with me at the moment and was trying to think of the process from memory, racking my memory I think it is the actual box that you see appear at the top of the map after tapping to get the drawing pin and within this box I think you see the three bars with the option to save as a waypoint and then edit , I can double check next week for you

Hi Alberto I definitely marked a waypoint before by tapping the drawing pin, apologies for my earlier explanation I did not have a GPS device with me , I have a slightly different touch screen unit with me now and the process should be the same on the Montana 700 as follows:

Tap on the screen to get the drawing pin, move the map around to get the pin where you would like to mark , select the box at the top of the screen, bottom right of screen in portrait mode you should have a flag icon touch on this and waypoint marked, then touch on a pencil icon that should be now at the bottom right of the screen to edit the waypoint name.

I have just tried this on an etrex touch and Oregon 700, from memory this should be the same process for the Montana 700i
