Montana 750i. Recording track

I am trying to record the track I take to be recorded as the actual track walked/driven/ridden rather than the point to point. Despite selecting option "No"  at 'Routing" / "Point to Point" and, when driving, selecting the option to stick to the road / trail

  • I'm not sure what the question is. Recording the actual track taken has nothing whatever to do with whether or not (or how) you route.

On the 7x0i, there are two types of recorded "tracks".

There is the record of "sent points". Depending on the send interval and your speed, this track tends to show a series of connected straight lines. The lines connect the "sent" points. This is a low resolution track because of the long send intervals (typically 10 minutes or more). Sent points (and the interpolated track) appear on the web site in more or less real time.

There is a record of what used to be called "logged points". On the 7x0i, this is now know as "activity logging". These tracks and the constituent points are not transmitted by satellite. They do not appear on the web site until you sync. This is typically a  much higher resolution track. When you do sync, the activity track should "overlay/replace" the low resolution sent track on the web site. However, the configuration which governs the point frequency is insanely complicated. Main Menu > Setup > Recording.

In theory, sending and activity logging are independent. This is a work in progress. There is now (right this minute) a setting which is supposed to help with the overall confusion. Main Menu > Setup > Tracking > Link with Recording. Personally, any time I start/stop/pause either sending or logging, I look to see if the "other thing" changed accordingly.
