Input power the same between 700i and Zumo 396?

I had a Zumo 396 on my motorcycle, hardwired to the cradle for power using the Garmin power wire with fuse. I am upgrading to the 700i. Because the routing for the power wire to the Zumo required me to take apart the dash, I am hoping that I don't need to go through that again, and could simply snip off the wire prior to the connector on the old Zumo cradle, and then snip and solder the wire for the new 700i cradle to the existing lead left from the Zumo. Anyone see any issues with that? Thanks in advance.

Incorrectly wiring the power cable can result in damage to the vehicle or battery and can cause bodily injury.
