malfunction of grade measurement ?

I' ve bought a new Montana 700 and I've configured a data field with various information.
Leaving my gps still on the table, I noticed that the grade data field does not always indicate 0% but variable numbers that can even reach 400%..

In the same conditions, my EDGE1030 shown costantly 0% ..

Do I have a faulty montana?

Funny Thing, I do not find any 'SLOPE' data field anywhere on my Montana 700.

Sorry, "slope" is uncorrect meaning...

Grade is correct meaning of the field that I' ve mentioned...

I have tested overnight two Montana 7x0, a GPSMAP 66, and an Oregon 7x0, and all of them exhibit the same erratic 'Grade' data field display you describe, with values fluctuating wildly and randomly between "----", "0%", "400%", "-inf%" and all values in between.

So, no, you do not have a 'defective' Montana 7x0.

It does appear all Garmin Outdoor Handheld devices will require a 'fix' for this data field, however.

Thank you for informations, today I' ve tryed montana on e-mtb and the grade field shown the correct data!

Even if everything works fine, the value of grade in the field was shown much later then the actual grade of the road ...

..
