Maps incompatibility issue

Hello everyone.  I've just upgraded from the Montana 650t to the New Montana 750i, I've taken the Micro SD card North America and Europe NT maps out and put in the New Montana 750i but they aren't showing on the screen. I get an error message stating I should contact the manufacturer. I have an older locally produced Japan map that I purchased from a Japanese map producer and the map works fine in my new Montana 750i and it is dated 2011 as well as my other two maps. I've done all the usual things like switch on off, remove SD card, disabled the built-in maps but still no luck. Anyone have any advice? Thank you.

  • How did the maps get onto the SD card? Did you purchase the physical SD card with maps from Garmin? Or did you purchase a download and copy the maps to the SD card? It matters. Maps purchased on the SD card can be moved from one unit to another. Maps purchased via download are locked to the device on which they were first installed.

If you purchased the maps ON the SD card, open a support ticket.

Edited to add: The 7x0i comes with City Navigator NT, presumably for the region where you purchased the device. This may be banging heads with the maps on the SD card.

  • Thank you for your response.  I purchased the maps containing the physical SD card I believe from Garmin.  They have always worked just fine in my Garmin Montana 650t but will not work in my new Garmin Montana 750i.  I purchased my 750i from Amazon and the unit is shipped from the U.S.  I tried the City Navigator Europe edition and it will also not work.  My map that I also purchased on MicroSD is a map I purchased locally in Japan (map of Japan) and it works just fine.  I purchased the Europe, North American, and South East Asia and none of them work in my new 750i.  Those I purchased in 2011.  Might be too late to as for a refund.  Any suggestions?

  • Only thing I can think of is to open a support ticket. You should do so through you local support organization, wherever you are located. Might have something to do with the age of the maps?
