Expedition mode is a power saving mode related specifically to inReach activity. Think of it as a sort of superset of the normal power saving mode. It does all the things that normal power saving does. Plus it does things like suppress the hourly automatic mail check, defers sending track points so as to use less iR modem time, and so forth.
