Watts

Hello, as I get ready for my first adventure with the Montana 700i, I need to know how many watts the unit draws from a car’s 12V system. My Forester has a limit of 120 watts combined from the 3 outlets. I want to power a refrigerator (45 watts) recharge a Jackery battery (42 watts) which leaves 33 for the Garmin and phones and such. So how much does it draw?

  • I do not know the answer to this. I do not see it in the device specs. One thread I saw says that the fuse in the cradle is 2A, so the device would have to draw less than that. I have no idea how reliable this information is.

If you really need to know, you'll probably have to open a support ticket.

  • My 700i in the Amps rugged mount draws 700 milliamps when it's on and charging. 700 milliamp at 12 volt is 8.4 watts. A big smart phone might draw as much as 2 amps at 5 volts. That translates to 10 watts. Add 10% for the conversion loss from 12 volt to 5 volt and your at 11 watts of draw from your car. So the short answer is plug it in!
