Managing maps on 700 and SD card

I bought the CityNavMap 2 days ago and downloaded into the SD card and I cannot see it in GarminExpress when I clicked on ManageMaps.

So, I downloaded it again but this time to the 700. And, I still cannot see the new map under ManageMaps. And, yes, I have shutdown GarminExpress and relauched it. It cannot see it.

But, when I launched BaseCamp, it can see the new map BOTH on the device and on the SD card.

What's going on? Can you help me to troubleshoot this, please?

I do not want to keep both copies.

I'm not sure what you actually did. When you download a map, it is locked to the first device on which you install it. This is true whether you put it on an SD card or put it directly into device memory.

I can plot a Route using Driving/Motorcycling Activity on regular roads, which I cannot previously without the CityMap. So, I know the CityNavMap is loaded and I can use it.

But, the issue is GarminExpress

- did not indicate it can see it or

- allow me to delete one of them.

As I said, BaseCamp can see both of them but I cannot manage them in BaseCamp.

I am having a similar issue. All maps have been downloaded to internal memory which is now nearly full. Garmin Express gives the option of moving maps to the SD card, and when executed, a progress bar shows the data being moved over approximately half an hour. However, when complete, it asks you to unplug the device and reconnect, after which the SD card is empty and the map remains within internal memory. Why does it go through this process if the maps are locked to where they were first loaded?

In this case, it's the same device (that is, the SD card is inserted in the same device where the maps are in on-board memory). So there is no problem with Garmin's policies regarding "one device at a time" for a given map. Maps purchased on a card can be moved from one device to another (but obviously can only be used in one device at a time). Maps which are downloaded are locked to the device on which they are first installed. That is true whether first installed into on-board memory or first installed onto an SD card in the device.

Basically, Express is a dumpster fire. Each new release fixes some old problems and introduces new ones. You should probably open a support ticket. The more people who officially report a particular problem, the more likely it is to be addressed - sooner rather than later.

By the way, how did you get to the part where Express allow you to move maps around?

I cannot find that feature.

I did, and it does not work as confirmed by Garmin support yesterday. They state it is a known issue and a fix is in development, scheduled to be included in the next Express update which is supposed to be in September.

BTW, they won’t open a support ticket on this issue because they say the solution is already in the works.
