Garmin Express failure to install map updates.

I've had my Montana 700i for less than 6 months & have a big trip next week. When I tried to update maps in Garmin Express, I get a red error message that it failed to update. I've watched troubleshooting videos and have tried everything I can think of.

Cleared history, uninstalled & reinstalled Express, restarted computer at least 3 times, cleaned cache, deleted cookies, turned off my firewall.  Nothing works.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

  • Well, Garmin has FU'd again. The updates are so stupid it's almost Hilarious. If you look at topo east and west europe, they skipped Germany....If you updated you CN Europe, you only get east europe, And I don't live there. I do honestly think Garmin should either get their wits together, sack a few of their FU's, and fix their products, or call it a day and shut down. It's so stupid, how could you be so dumbfuc.... stupid

  • Whatever you do backup your device first, Garmin's Express is sort of Russian Roulette, It either works or messes up the maps completely. When I just bought my 700i I was glad I had a backup, My first update trashed my topo maps, This time the November 2021 map updates have changed the scenery of Europe drasticly, According to Garmin Germany, Italy, and parts of the Balkan are no longer parts of Europe. And the CN 2022.10 update of the full coverage of Europe The landscape has an even more drastic change, It's now only eastern europe.

I wonder who assembles these map sets, is that person sane?

  • I've taken to avoiding map updates as much as possible, and CERTAINLY not when I'm going to depend upon the device to work within the next month or so. I'm seriously considering asking garmin support point blank, prior to an update, if garmin support knows of any reason an update at that time might fail. Then, only if they say there's no bugs outstanding, do I attempt the update. And even then it will be a nail biter.

It's interesting how quickly mess-ups like this on the part of a company can leave a nearly permanent impression in ones mind.
