Montana 700 Crashes when trying to load IMG map file

I am having real problem getting IMG files loaded on to my new Montana 700. I have a 32G SD card and its FAT32 formatted on a Mac. I have loaded a IMG map file on to the SD card - a file that is 1.4G and covering the UK.

Montana 700 does not see the IMG map file when I go into configure maps on the GPS.

So I moved the IMG file on my MAC into the GARMIN folder of the GPS and the IMG file is seen in configuration but when I select it and exit configure the GPS crashes - switches off immediately.

Really frustrating as I have the latest firmware install.

Have you tried it on an SD and tried accessing it with basecamp (in a folder named Garmin) The image file could be corrupt causing the montana to crash. If basecamp is able to open the file from the sd card and show the map and details the issue is something else. Is the image file locked to another device, then the Montana will not show it. You can use Javawa device manager (windows) to check the image file.

The garmin.openstreetmap.nl OpenStreetMap site has a huge backlog (100+ days) of map requests at present so try this other excellent free site. I've donated as it's very, very good.

There may be a conflict with the MAP ID of the Maps? If two Maps have the same Map ID, one of the Map will not be recognized.

Might also be that the particular map is "too large" for the device. I know the device has limits (not necessarily just file size), but I do not know what they are. Might be worth opening a support ticket, particularly since there is a crash involved.
