When navigating a saved route, gps starts at finish.

Hi guru's,

If I create a route on Base Camp and send it to Device, it looks fine on map view.

The route is not near my current location.

I then try to navigate it from my current location, but it navigates me to the end point of route instead of the beginning.

I don't want to have to reverse it, so I can start at the beginning.

If I try the same but with a track, it takes me to the beginning of the track like I expect.

As I am newbie I am wondering If I am missing something. I have an old 276c and it takes me to the beginning of the route so I can start it.

Does it only navigate from start if I am near the start location of route?

  • It MAY be that the device is sending you to the "nearest" point on the route. If the end is nearer to your current location than any other point on the route, this might be the result. If so, it's not that the device would navigate the route in reverse. Rather, you would "arrive" when you got the end point.

I do not KNOW this for a fact. But it is consistent with what SOME iR devices do when following a route and you are off the route. Those devices send you to the nearest point "ahead" on the route.

  • Thanks for reply.

Sure is strange. All my other GPS units navigate to the start of a route. I tried using direct but same thing.

Even turn off recalculation for off route but still same issue.

  • I have now logged a fault with Garmin.

I took it to the shop where I bought it as they are the GPS guru's. They too could not get it to navigate to the start point.
Another issue is that when you use DIRECT it not only says next point is the END point, there is also no line drawn from your current location.

I would love to know if anyone else has the same issue.

  • Question: Is your current location closer to the END of the route or the BEGINNING of the route?

  • Sorry no,

    I thought that as well.

I also tried creating route on the 750i itself.

    Same thing.

I am hoping it is just me doing something wrong but the GPS shop guys experienced the same thing.

I am hoping to tell you all it just newbie error but I will let you know.

  • Do you know what happens if you are physically near the route? I have the impression that you are a substantial distance away.

  • At the moment no. I have created a short 4 waypoint route and will walk it tomorrow.

I am starting the route about 500m from my location. I will walk to first point to see if it responds.

    Will let you know result.

  • I created a quick 3 waypoint route near my house. The first point about 150M away.
    I set routing to DIRECT.
Started navigating at my house. This time the "Next Way Point" displayed was the 2nd way point.
Still no navigation line to a waypoint.
I started walking to the first waypoint even though the GPS was not telling me anything. All I could do is watch myself on the screen move towards first waypoint.
After reaching first Waypoint GPS still didn't make a peep.
I started to walk to 2nd waypoint and once I got to this waypoint the GPS beeped and then selected the last waypoint.
Its like there is no BEGIN point in this example.

As a test I tried to navigate to a track a long way from here. Select track, then select Go and it immediately draws a line to the beginning of the track as you would expect.

  • I'd suggest that you open a support ticket. I had not trouble with a short route created on the device from a combination of on-board waypoints and selection on the map. I was using street routing since it was a driving route. But I see the purple line and get appropriate turn-by-turn directions.

I tried switching to direct routing. As expected, I get the purple line which navigates point to point between the waypoints which make up the route.

Bottom line: Unit seems to be working normally.

  • Thanks for your input twolpert.

I will see what Garmin  techs come up with.
