Find menu items missing, addresses, postcodes

1) Where to menu does not show “use map” although “use map” appears at the top of the change item order menu

2) Where to>addresses brings up fields for search area, number, street name. If I press search area there are 2 more fields, city/postcode and number. Pressing City brings up a text field dialogue box, if I type Oxford into that, I get a choice of Oxford or Oxford Airport, but selecting either of these returns a screen saying not found.

3) as above, but enter a UK postcode - say SG8 5NT - screen says no results found. But click the 3 line menu but, select map, select city navigator, the postcode is accepted. Select the postcode, and it says none found, until any text is entered into the number field, and then an address is offered.

is this a bug? Or is there another way to navigate to an address or postcode?

also, why doesn’t drag and drop work to rearrange menu items in the find menu?

in spite of the presence of Use Map in the list, there is no explicit mode. To select a destination via the map - Display the map, pan and zoom to the desired vicinity, tap the map to drop a pin. If necessary, pan “under the pin” to position it precisely. Tap the white info box at the top of the map. Tap Go on the resulting screen.

I suspect that some of the other problems are due to the mess with auto map selection. Even when it’s working right, it’s incomprehensible to mere mortals. At least to me. To turn this off, Map > hamburger menu > Map Setup > Configure Maps. At the top, set Automatic Maps to Off. Then be sure that the installed maps containing the POI data you want to use are enabled. Typically, this is City Navigator. You should also leave the worldwide DEM basemap enabled.

As I said, I suspect this might be due to device confusion between routing type and automatic map selection. Try disabling auto map select to see if it helps.

It's already disabled - since my use case is a dual sport motorbike, it doesn't work since it would select CN maps whenever Motorcycle is selected when in fact I want to use the GB Topo Pro (UK Ordnance Survey map)

Don't know anything about that one. As long as it's routable and exposes the necessary POIs, it ought to work. This one probably requires a call to tech support - assuming it's a Garmin map. If not, I suspect you're on your own.

Yep, the Montana 7x0 Auto Map feature is far from polished, and hardly usable.

Also, if you want to route for Motorcycle (or Automotive) navigation, the device will only allow you to use City Navigator maps.

I have a profile set, using only the GB Topo Pro maps (not city navigator), with Motorcycle Driving as the activity. It routes without any problems. GB Topo Pro maps are dual layer, and are routable. Same with OSM maps, that are routable, with CN maps switched off.

Sounds like a bug! Garmin intends for automotive and motorcycle routing to be limited to City Navigator maps only. They have already started updating older devices with this limitation, and at one time it was how the Montana 7x0 was behaving.

do you think? How would that work, then, for the Montana 700 that doesn't have city navigator? It's the same for all my other devices - I have a 276cx, a Montana 680, a 600, all of which will route with any routable maps. Especially, the GB Topo Pro, which is Garmin product.

I'm just telling you that Garmin have been removing the ability to route automotive or motorcycle with OSM based maps on their outdoor handheld devices.
