Using an older Garmin map in a Montana 700

Yeah, sorry we couldn't get it resolved immediately.

i have same problem with garmin 100k topo, does not show road s as roads on montana 700.  looks quite different than on my old 650

At the suggestion of Garmin I purchased a recent version of the 24k Topo Northest and that solved the problem. Apparently my older version (2014) of the 24k Topo Northeast map was too old to display on the Montana 700. There is never a problem that spending more money can’t solve. I will use that old map in my 62s. The Montana 700 and the new map rocks. The large display is great for viewing the detail in the maps. Being able to add the satellite imagery is a bonus (although not as good as Google earth imagery). The 62S is my winter GPS.

Well .... I’m into it for $600 and without the new map ($100) it is of no value to me. I like the unit and the huge view screen. It’s a major upgrade from my 6 year old 62S. In this case the correct decision is to spend the $100. I’ll leave the old map in the 62S and use that one on my winter adventures when it’s too cold for the touch screen.

Add eu cycling map to the list of maps this thing cannot read

Yes, we have always to hope, that there will be a Garmin Guy after a week to solve  a, normally easy thing. Nothing is easy at Garmin.Just to use the own map on a Micro-Sd on a newer garmin results in in a lot of anger. I really often ask myself, why do I use a Garmin????? Customer friendliness is a foreign word for garmin

...and what are the other alternatives to Montana 7xx from other manufacturers?

With similar display and battery capacity?
