I have a problem with profiles.

I usually back up the profiles to protect myself against failures or data loss.

Today I couldn't, some files with Chinese, Korean or Japanese characters appeared, I don't know which language, and the copy was cancelled.

Attached is a picture of the intruders.

These files cannot be renamed, copied or deleted.

Translation of the text:
The specified file name is not valid or is too long. Specify another file name

Any help or suggestions?

Best guess would be that the unit was unplugged without first "dismounting" it through the USB icon in the system tray. Corrupted the file system on the device. You should probably open a support ticket.

I already opend a support ticket.They do not have a solution yet.

Normally I'd guess they'd start with a full reset. However, I am not sure that corrects the file system. It WOULD lose all user data on the device. DO NOT do it unless they say to. If it does not correct the file system, you might end up bricked. Writing anything to a corrupt file system runs the risk of more damage.

They might also suggest using one of the Windows file system checker tools to try to clean up the mess. That could be risky as well.

I already did a full reset. I can delete these profiles from the montana device. After that I did a full reset and did a backup of all my profiles before. After that I did a full reset. the result of this: the crazy profiles did not exists anymore. But after a restart of the device they are back again.

Do you think it's a good idea to check the Garmin Montana 700 with a Windows file system checker? It's not a windows system.

The file system is FAT32. Pretty sure Windows can still validate and repair that. But I would not recommend allowing it to repair. If it IS a corrupt file system, you never know what might get trashed by trying the repair.

OK, but than it makes no sence to check it. Any other idea how to delete these crazy profile files? I just tried it again. I deleted all via the montana device. But as soon as I connect the montana with my PC after that, the crazy profile files are there again.

or is it maybe important which interface settings you choose in the montana (serial,MTP...)

The only reason to scan without repair is to see if the file system IS corrupt. If it's not, then we need to look elsewhere for the root of the problem.

Mass storage (USB) vs. MTP should not matter. MTP does not require a "dismount" like USB. But the perceptible results are the same. Device mounts as a removable drive. I don't remember what other modes are available, but most of them do not mount the device as a file system at all. That's true of serial. Spanner mode will actually ask you when you plug it in.

When you reconnect to the PC, is there a sync in there someplace? I would not have thought that profiles would have been part of the sync data, but it never really occurred to me before.
