Montana 700i display frozen after display update

Today I’ve updated my Montana 700i via Garmin Express to firmware 6.30 and Display update (available in Express). After restarting, the display was stuck on “New software found. Continue installation?” : but when trying to go further, I cannot press either Yes or No. The display is not reacting, Tried to reset, reinstall firmware through WebUpdater (which is saying I’m on latest firmware 6.30 but when trying to reinstall is going with 5.30...)...nothing. Dead

Seeking help on Garmin site, I’ve ended up in chat with the tech support and the solution was to format the GARMIN in mass storage mode to FAT and then update the firmware in Garmin Express. Although   curious at least (the solution) I did it and the result was as anticipated: nothing else on my Montana memory...empty. Now Express is not recognizing it, WebUpdater is getting constant failure at firmware reinstall and my Mac is only recognizing it after the usb cable remove, power off, power button pressed the after red led coming to life, usb cable in and... fingers crossed...

  • Hi

Does this issue only occur when the 700i is updated via a mac computer or does it occur with PC's as well?

I am hesitating to update my  700

    thanks

  • I don’t think is computer related but more to a firmware bug.

  • I may have gotten lucky since my Touchscreen update loaded 100% and works normally. But successful Mac interfaces with 700i’s are 0 for 3 on this thread. (I’m still showing version 5.30 after the Touchscreen update) Dr Kayak didn’t say but I’m guessing a Windows computer yielded version 6.30 without issue.

Also, one of 6.30’s listed Fixes was mounting SD Cards formatted on Mac Computers

  • I don’t think is computer related but to a firmware bug.

  • Hi Andrew,

I cannot find 6.30 release notes anywhere. What does the 6.30 update fix or introduce? Is it safe to install it via Windows given that some of the users here report issues when updating the fix?

    Cheers

  • Same with 750i. Software update available. Do you want to install? Yes was the last the screen responded. Hard reset. Still no screen. Update via Express (mac).  No screen response. Replacement en route from retailer.
