Compass Freeze Montana 700

Recently I bought a Montana 700 but the compass freezes as soon as i start moving (walk, bike, car). As long as I stand still the compass works correct.

Looks like the compass doesn't swicht from magnetic compass to gps compass when moving beyond a few km/h.

Anyone else who has this problem?

Is your "Auto" setting under Heading settings on or off? (Main Menu > Setup > Heading > Auto)

I tested by standing still with Auto ON and the compass displays correctly using the 3-axis…

Yes! Several times. Outside, away from metal objects and with good GPS signal.

No change.

Compass just won't work while walking. Only when I stand still.

And if I switch off Auto for Heqading Settings - Compass it won't even work when I stand still.

Have been testing this since yesterday and am unable to duplicate.

I’ll hopefully be out with my new unit at some stage tomorrow and I will check if I see the same issue.

Device has already been exchanged by the store; this is the second with this problem. Store has tested with a 700i and it didn't work either. Now they also had a customer in another facility who occasionally had this problem with his new Montana 700.

Multiple new units in succession failing the same way? This is very likely going to be User Error.....

Weird we have not heard this from anywhere else yet... This will be fun to see what Garmin determines to be the issue....

All in the Netherlands. Don't know about other countries.

Contacted Garmin and they say: exchange the device again at the store...
