Use Inreach Mini in conjunction with Garmin Montana 700i???????

Using one Inreach subscription on my Garmin Montana 700i can I also use the Garmin Mini Inreach as a remote??? or do I need two subscriptions? Will they both work in conjunction? I have Montana mounted on a dual sport motorcycle and want to wear the mini on m jacket or person while riding. In case I'm thrown to far from motorcycle to activate the Montana I want to be able to activate the mini? Is this possible? Thanks for any input.

The short version is that you can use the Montana to control the Mini to send a preset, send a custom message, activate SOS, or look at tracking statistics. IIRC, you can also start/stop tracking, but the article does not mention that.

This does not make sense in your scenario. If you are thrown off the bike, you're not in a position to use the Montana to remote control the Mini. The Mini cannot remote control the Montana. You are in a position to use the Mini independently. This does require 2 subscriptions - one for each device.

Alternatively, you can use a wearable (for example, a fenix watch) to remote control the Montana. In this scenario, the Mini is completely superfluous. The details vary according to the wearable. The settings on the Montana for this flavor of remote control are buried under Main Menu > Setup > Sensors. Details, including a list of compatible wearables, here:

The Montana 7x0i devices do not have the inReach Remote app.

The first link above has the gory details. You must add the remote control page to the main menu. And no, it makes no sense to me, either. Guessing that the 7x0i inherited this from non-iR handhelds.

Also possible that this IS the manual for a non-iR Montana… search is a dangerous thing…

Not available.

No Garmin inReach device has the 'inReach Remote' app, only those that do not have integral inReach hardware.

Yes, and those gory details specifically state: 'Montana 700', not Montana 700i or 750i.
