For a navigation device a primary function is to tell you where you are. !!!

Garmin you have lost the plot !!!!!

To be fair, Garmin does not position the Mini 3 Plus as a navigation device, but as a SOS satellite communicator.

The Mini 3 Plus has very basic navigation capabilities, and there are other Garmin devices that are better suited for navigation, like the GPSMAP H1i Plus.

You can share your feature request with Garmin via https://garmin.com/ideas, maybe they'll add it to a future software release.

Hmmmm, the IR mini 2 managed to do it very well. 

Dont agree, the device allows you to set. position formats, which datum to use and which Spheroid to use.
These are all vital to correct navigation to specifiy exactly where you are on the planet.
I use it as a quick ref to check on the OS map where I am, especially in lo vis.
I also have it on my garmin epix 2 pro which works wonderfully, but for a £430+ device it should be able to show you where you are. 
I dont want to carry another gps with crappy maps that dont relate to the UK. To get OS 1:25000 maps on there is another £300+ which is pretty ridiculous. Anyway I have already put in a complaint to have the co-ords page restored.

It is not a full navigation device, it is a satellite communication and emergency location device. It's very basic navigation capability is an add on and not meant to be a substitute for a proper navigation device. If you want better maps on your GPS use OSM maps or Talky Toaster maps. Better than the Garmin maps and free/cheap. 

I am not interested in full navigation at all  I am interested in a £430 GPS device being able to display coordiates as to where it is on the planet. Hardly a difficult thing to do, and one that the mini 2 did perfectly.
And it is a navigation device in itself, it has menus, and settings for navigation and the first tenent of being able to naviagte is knwing where are in the first place.

Whatever you say. Personally I am really impressed and pleased with my satellite communicator :)

And as an aside, if you want to see your current location, just scroll down to the Map page and tap on the location icon. It will then give your location. But of course, you need a subscription to do that, which you apparently don't have....
