InReach Mini 2 is connected to my phone but won't pair.

Hi,

I am trying to pair my new inReach Mini 2 to  my phone using the Messenger app. I have followed all of the steps and it connects to the phone but doesn't pair. It shows as 'paired' in my phone but in the Messenger app it shows as not paired. I have tried rebooting both devices several times, unpairing via the phone, turning bluetooth off and on etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this? Is there any harm in factory resetting the device and starting again? I've spent about two hours trying to do this simple task and it's very frustrating! Thanks

  • Just try to pair it as you would any other device and forget using the messenger app. First check your phones blue tooth to see if it’s listed there as a device. If it’s new it’s probably not but if it is delete it and start the pairing over. Do that if you have trouble in the future and need to re pair it. If it’s new, set the mini to pair mode, open blue tooth and select the new device when your phone finds it. You’ll probably have to enter the pairing code that appears on the mini 2. In the future if you have issues you may need to press forget phone on the mini 2 and forget device on your phone and re pair the two. Sometimes the pairing might get messed up. Once you pair it this way it should show paired in the apps. Also I have had trouble before with syncing from the explore app, contacts or quick message updates, while signed iinto the messenger app.  Hope this helps.

  • Thanks for the reply. I have tried following these steps.

When I put the mini 2 in pairing mode, and then select it from the phone's bluetooth, I get the code appearing on both devices, but when I press ok, the device shows a message along the lines of 'download the Garmin Messenger app for the best experience' and when I close this, the 'Status' section in the menu is toggled to 'off'. It shows as being paired on my phone, but not in the app or on the mini 2.

Because it's not showing as paired on the mini 2 itself, I can't select 'forget phone'.

I'll try a few more reboots of both devices and see if it somehow decides to work!

  • I just unpaired mine and re paired it this way.

In the Garmin explore app, which you need to download first, under devices I just tapped on the Mini  2 listed at the top of the page and it paired my mini again. Maybe try that.

  • After rebooting both devices I managed to pair it from the Messenger app and it's now working. Frustrating that it took hours, but glad it's set up now. Thanks for your help!
