Tracking on "inReach Enabled" subscription charges

I have recently downgraded my Garmin inReach subscription/plan to "inReach Enabled", the most basic plan.

I was wondering if some one could advise me if I turn on tracking on my inReach device will I be charged?

It is useful just to have tracking waypoint just saved to the device and not uploaded to the Garmin server. Is there a way to avoid tracking charges?

Enabling tracking will incur a charge per tracking point sent when on the Enabled plan.

The Mini 2 also records a local log, the activity recording. What you could try is setting the tracking interval to Off and set Activity Recording to High Detail. You then should get a recording of your activity without sending tracking points.

Gonna insert my usual PSA here. I realize that sent track points cost money. But they DO serve a safety purpose. They provide a "last known location" for SAR if rescue is required. Yes, I know - "I'm going to send an SOS if I need help." What if you are unconscious? Immobilized in a location with no iR reception? Device is smashed, battery is dead, or whatever? The track points are way better than nothing when somebody at home finally reports you missing. Is saving a few bucks a day really worth your life? /rant
