Clarification on Check-In Message Fees for the Enabled Plan

Hello, I have a question regarding the new Enabled plan and the sending of check-in messages. According to Garmin’s FAQs, this type of message should incur a fee. Does this apply to messages sent via cellular connection as well, or only those sent through the Iridium satellite network?

Based on available information I would say the when your device is connected to the Messenger app, and the phone has cellular or WiFi, then sending a check-in or regular message should not get charged. But the conditions for this to happen are somewhat specific, see support.garmin.com/.../

As far as I have understood it, only SOS is free with Enabled Plan and you have to pay for everything else. But an official confirmation would be good...

You will want to review the information at Automatic Switching and Message Charges When Using the Garmin Messenger App; but, to answer your question, messages delivered via cell or Wi-Fi service (even in the Enabled state) would not incur overage charges. Only messages delivered via satellite (or replies to your messages) would incur the overage fee.
