Question about switching to the Enabled Plan and subscription credit

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding the subscription change to the new plans. I was interested in switching to the “Enabled” plan, as I mainly use my device for emergencies and, at most, for a few check-in messages.

I have an annual plan that will expire in a few months, while my monthly renewal occurred about a week ago. My question is this: if I were to switch to the enabled plan now, would the €14.99 I paid a few days ago be credited towards the purchase of the new subscription, or would it be deducted without providing any benefit when switching plans?

I’ve read Garmin’s policies in the FAQs, but I can’t quite understand them. Also, if there’s no benefit in switching plans now and receiving credit for what I’ve already paid for this month, it might be better to wait until the monthly renewal expires.

According to the FAQ on the new inReach plans, a change to Enabled this happens immediately and is pro-rated, which means that the amount you paid for your current plan is credited for the remainder of your billing cycle. The difference between the cost of the Enabled plan and the pro-rated amount is charged to your account.

If you are on the old annual contract it indeed may be worthwhile to switch to Enabled to save a couple of bucks. If you do nothing you are grandfathered into your current plan until you decide to switch to a different plan.
