message count on inreach mini 2

Hi there. I've just purchased an inreach mini 2 (yesterday). My screen says that I've aready used up 1/50 messages, when I haven't sent any messages. All I've done is send 2 check ins to test. I've received a no reply message from garmin saying I'm not signed in for map share - surely that wouldn't count as a message?

I assume you have an Essential plan? Have you perhaps requested a weather report? That would count 1 message.

The message counts on the device, on the web at explore.garmin.com, in the various apps - are never, ever right. The only place where they might be right is on your bill. Even there, you cannot really tell for sure. Things are further confused for devices which are capable of use with the Messenger app. In those cases, the message "counts" only if it has to travel by satellite.

It has always been this way. Garmin appears to be unwilling or unable to fix it.
