Configuring Check-Ins stuck InReach Mini 2

The recipient list for check-in messages is not syncing.

First I tried changing the list in the Garmin explore web site. The recipient list did NOT sync to the Garmin Explore Android app or the InReach device.

Then I tried changing the list in the Garmin Explore Android app. After I synced the device the recipient list was NOT synced to the InReach device. Worse still, in the Garmin Explore app I cannot even compose a check-in message. When I click on "Check-in" I get the following error. It has been going for 3 hours.

How can I sync my recipient list?

  • Welcome to the wonderful world of check-ins (vs the older preset messages).

    Check-in messages have fixed text. You cannot change the text as you could with preset messages.

    All three check-in messages have the SAME recipient list. Each of the three preset messages could have a different recipient list. 

    It is NOT necessary to sync the recipient lists (for check-in OR preset messages) to the device. Unlike quick text and manually composed messages, the device does NOT send the recipient list with the message. For check-ins or preset messages, the device sends only the "message number" (think of this as 1, 2 or 3). The Garmin servers look up the recipient list and send the message accordingly.

    I don't know about the Explore app (as opposed to the web site). I stay as far away from the Garmin mobile apps as possible. 

    My best guess is that the check-in messages will work just fine when sent. Yes, it's confusing not to be able to see correct recipients on the device. But it does not matter in terms of message delivery.

    OTOH, given the mess in the app (inability to SEND the check-in from the app), you will probably need to open a support ticket.
