Navigating a course: alarm on waypoint proximity?

I've uploaded a GPX file including a track and multiple waypoints to the Garmin inReach Mini 2.
When starting the navigation (course) I get on screen a "map" showing the route. You can also see the added waypoints including their names.

But... It looks like I don't get a signal/alarm when I'm in close proximity to a waypoint.
Am I missing something or is this function simply not present on this Garmin device?

I've read you can set a proximity alarm on different Garmin devices, but I can't find anything on the Mini 2 to do so.
It sounds pretty ignorant if you can use the Mini 2 to navigate but it's lacking proper support for waypoints (f.e. to mark springs / water sources).

Any workarounds for this? (other than splitting up the entire hike into a million separate courses)

IF the M2 supports this at all, I suspect it is only when navigating directly TO the waypoint. When you are navigating a route (or course, or whatever it's called this week), you are navigating that series of points. Waypoints might be "close to" or even "on" the route. But you are not navigating TO them. When navigating a route, you will only get an "arriving" alarm at the end.

Next time you're out, try navigating to one of the waypoints. Let us know if you get an "arriving" alarm.

Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately that won't resolve the problem; when navigating to a waypoint it will be a "as the crow flies" path between your starting point and the waypoint. It won't be using actual trails nor the route you've programmed.

Better would be to generate tracks / courses from every waypoint to every waypoint, but that would result in hundreds of different routes. that would be no option either...

I wasn't suggesting that it would solve your "problem". Just that you can verify that "arrival" alerts work when navigating TO a waypoint. You can submit an enhancement request here: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/

I don't think Garmin is likely to consider this behavior a bug.

I would have expected the proximity alarm to be a standard function for all Garmin devices. It's a great way to notify you of waypoints along your track. See also this article about it: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=5GrW0VuNLi6Ow0opcRVVT9
But perhaps it's only limited to certain devices - that's unfortunate...

I suspect an M2 does not count as an "outdoor handheld", and that the term refers only to the bigger Garmin GPS devices like these: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/c/outdoor-recreation/handheld-hiking-gps/ Anyway, with the M2 you can only navigate to a waypoint OR along a route/course, but when doing the latter, waypoints are not used to trigger any kind of alarm.

Yes, I think you're correct on that one! I can't indeed find anything about such a feature on the Mini 2. How do people now use the M2 if you like to navigate through a lot of points of interest (waypoints) if you don't want to split the hike (route/course) into lots of multiple segments? (not that I'm lazy - there are just too many waypoints on a big hike).

There is no other way to get notifications on certain points through your route? (So only if the point of interest is an endpoint, it could work)
