Activity not transferring from Mini 2 to Explore

I have a rather lengthy activity that refuses to sync over between my unit and my phone via the Explore app, and consequentially it has not been ported over into the Explore website. I have also tried connecting the device to a PC to no avail. Is there a way I can manually force it into Explore via the web or app?

  • I don't believe there is any way to do a wired sync for data with the M2. Only OTA via the Explore app.

  • You can sync the M2 using Garmin Express for software updates but I’ve seen no indication of anything porting to Explore. I’ve copy the .fit file of the activity from the device that is not synching but I’d like to upload it into Explore.

  • This is correct. The M2 gets f/w updates from Express. But nothing else syncs that way.

It occurs to me that you might try attaching the M2 a Connect account, upload to Connect, then export and re-import. Since you have the .fit file, you can probably skip some steps. I believe that it has to be a .gpx in order to import a FILE into the explore app.

You might also be able to import the .gpx into explore.garmin.com as a track. Put it in a collection which will sync back to the device. Sync via the Explore app. I think this just adds steps tho.

  • Thanks, I’m aware that I can have the activity ported to Connect via .fit upload, but I’m attempting to put my activities into Explore as activities rather than a route or course via .gpx. I guess there are no solutions at the moment, too bad!

  • I think you can get it in there (in one of those roundabout ways) as a TRACK, but not as an activity. The only way you're going to get it as an activity is if the Explore app can get it off the device directly. Even if you were to get it to the explore web site as an activity, those do not sync BACK to the device (or back to the app as a proxy for the device). At least, that's the way I understand it.

If this an important activity, you're probably going to have to open a support ticket. Even then, you may not get the data you want.

  • When you say "refuses to sync", what exactly do you mean?  Do you keep getting sync failure messages, or what?  What platform is the Explore app running on?

  • Same problem here on my M2. One activity - the first one I've tracked when I got the device - simply won't transfer to the Explore app after syncing. I don't get sync errors. New activities, courses, waypoints, collections etc. all sync perfectly (between M2, iPhone and Explore website). All except that one first activity. It was a hike of 68 km (42 miles) with a tracking time of 27 hours using auto start tracking (switching the device off at the end of a hiking day). I can still see the activity on the M2 in the activities menu.

  • , Did you manage to solve the issue? Since I'm experiencing a similar error: What was the length of your activity? Was it the first tracked activity on your device?

  • Hey Edwin, no resolution unfortunately, it was not the first activity and was almost 12hrs of content.

  • Thanks. Same here. I've tried multiple ways to fix it. Connecting it to a computer (mac), to duplicate the .fit file within the activities folder. No change. I can see the new files on the M2, can open them, but they won't sync.
Downloaded the .fit file and opened it in different online software; the file is readable and contains all data. I've tried some .fit repair websites and put the file back on the device; nothing worked. It won't sync the activity. Really strange!

Is Garmin monitoring this forum and actively involved? Or is there another way to contact them about these bugs? Within the support pages, I can only find the "feature request/product suggestions" form... not an actual contact form for problems.
