Mini2 sync with Explore only?

I have no Mini2 so far, but have seen that suppliers have only the Mini2 in stock.

Can someone telle me if the Mini2 can sync only via Explore(Phone) or is there still a way to sync via USB cable?

"NOTE: You must use the Garmin Explore app to sync data to and from the handheld, the inReach Sync application is not compatible."

thanks, it looks like Garmin does really not want to be part of professional market any more, as sync of 300 IR devices would need 300 phones to be kept in stock
