Subscription costs?

I am considering adding an inreach Mini to my gear, but I'd only use it 2 months a year. Do I understand right, I'd have to pay BOTH the activation fee AND the annual fee for the "freedom plan"? Effectively 65$/£ or 75€ before I sent or received a single text?

Basically: yes. According to https://discover.garmin.com/en-GB/inreach/personal/#subscriptions, the Freedom plan annual fee is £34.99, and the Freedom Safety plan monthly fee is £14.99. So you'd pay £50 before you can send a single text, and then another £15 to cover the second month. So £65 total for one year (based on the Safety plan and two months' use).

Thank you. I was hesitating between the bivy stick, spot X messenger and the Inreach. Apparently the costs are about the same. The bivy was cheaper but they started the obligatory 4 months requirement which is not much use if you use it for less than 2.

6878243 If you want the freedom to suspend service when you are not using it you would want to choose the freedom/free plan and then choose which tier is best for you. To send messages or have live tracking or SOS capabilities you would have to pay the activation/annual fee (which comes around once a year whether supspended or active on the freedom plan) plus the price of the tier you choose to go with at the initial activation.
