Data Use

To try out the equipment, I sent a couple of messages. When I go to the website of my account, these messages show up against my monthly quota, but when I check it on the Mini itself

(Main Menu > Service Plan > Data Use), there are just dashes --.

I thought they would show up there too, or do I misunderstand something?

  • Same for me. Nothing visible on the device. Seems like its not working (yet).

Mushy, atlas and twoperl are pretty expert users. Perhaps they have a view?

  • Heh... I've only owned the Mini 2 for about a week now, but I'll try to live up to my reputation. Smile

On my Mini 2, the Service Plan -> Data Use page showed just dashes initially as well.

However, if you then press the OK button, you'll get an "Update Details" option. Press OK again, and the device will acquire a GPS fix, then send an Activation Request (don't know why it's called like that; obviously the device and subscription were already activated), and then wait for a reply message. After that has been received, the Data Use page does show the message stats -- at least in my case.

Whether those values are correct is a different matter, though. My unit shows I've sent zero presets and 12 messages, but I think those values are reversed, as I've only sent presets so far. The 12 does match the value shown on the Explore website though. Also, the number of sent tracking points seems to be correct, too.

    Hope this helps.

  • I suspect that the "activation request" is because that update option is intended to check for plan changes. Regardless, the stats you see anywhere - on the device or on the web - are likely to be incorrect. At a minimum, they are delayed.

  • Yup. Messages and Presets are reversed for me too. At least that is a very simple bug to fix :)

However, my 'points sent' on the device does not stack up with the explore website (2 on device versus 4 on website). These are from some days ago so ought t o be up to date. I wonder if there is a difference between Track points sent and Location Ping requests? Mine were a mixture of the two.

  • Thanks, you are now the official inReach handbook senior consultant Vulcan

I have also a discrepancy between website and inReach.
