For Mini 2 owners: is it now possible to use it as an external GPS on Android for Gaia GPS or similar apps, like it can be done on iOS? I know it's not possible with Mini 1, but maybe something has changed with the new device.
Thanks!

This limitation is not in the device, it's in the way the mobile operating system exposes the GPS to applications. On iOS, an iR device (paired via BT) is exposed through location services. This means that ANY application can use the GPS data. To put this another way, the external BT GPS is exposed in the same way as the phone's internal GPS.
I don't do Android, but my understanding is that the Android O/S does not do this. The only apps that can use the iR GPS are those which specifically look for it and understand how to use it. For example, Earthmate (original Mini) or Explore (Mini 2).
I doubt that this changed with the Mini 2. But i have not way to test it.
Thanks for your kind and detailed answer. So I'll wait for someone to test it with a Mini 2, bit without much hope... I think I'll just have to get an iPhone sooner or later.
Wil an app like that do the job? play.google.com/.../details
That claims to solve the problem. I have no way to test it, though.
