Hi
Is there any kind of maps installed on inReach 2 or is it only the tracked route I can se? No details appear when zooming out or in. Just my position and saved waypoints.

No map support. No space for maps. Only 18 MB internal memory.
If you want maps on an iR device, you will need to invest in and use a larger device. You have several choices here.
Legacy device: inReach Explorer+. This device was developed by DeLorme before Garmin bought them. It is not a full member of the Garmin ecosystem. Available maps are very limited as a result. Pairs with the old Earthmate mobile app. Hard buttons. $450. 7.5oz. Comparable battery life up to 100 hours. 1.4x1.9 in color display.
Current generation device: GPSMAP66i. Developed entirely by Garmin. All the features of a Garmin handheld, plus iR features. Can use all Garmin cartography, including so-called "custom" maps. Pairs with the Explore mobile app. Hard buttons. $600. 8.1 oz. Comparable battery life 35 hours. 1.5x2.5 color display.
Huge, heavy current generation device: Montana 7x0i. Developed entirely by Garmin. All the features of a Garmin handheld, plus iR features. Can use all Garmin cartography, including so-called "custom" maps. Pairs with the Explore mobile app. Large touch screen. $700 w/o camera. 14.5 oz. 2.55x4.25 in color touch display. Comparable battery life 18 hours. Unit has removable Li-ion battery pack.
For all devices, there is lots of weasel wording around battery life. I chose to use the figure for 10 minute tracking with no special power-saving features such as expedition or power-saving mode. In general, it's difficult to compare battery life. What you can say is that the more features the device has, the more it sucks battery.
Visit the Garmin web site to get full comparison information. See the Specs section of the page for each device.
With my GPSMAP 66i in my pocket, ON and connected to my phone in hand, watching its Explore app screen with maps selected, I can follow my walk. I expect that to work with a Mini 2.
It does.
It also consumes a lot of power to keep that wireless data connection active.
I agree.
