Cost to send TO an InReach internationally

Dear All, I have an InReach Mini2 that I will be using on remote trips abroad during fieldwork. I know how pricing works from MY end, but how about on the OTHER end? Normally, we communicate via iMessage, which is free to use iPhone-to-iPhone, even internationally. Do the people sending/receiving my texts from the InReach get charged to send international texts to me? Or does my subscription cover the costs? Thank you!

  • inReach SMS messages will be received by inReach recipients from a phone number local to them. When they reply to an inReach SMS message, the reply will be going back through that local exchange. Therefore, they are sending a domestic SMS message, even though it is being delivered to the inReach user internationally.

  • Chris, can you clarify that the 'number local to them' is assigned based on the receiving number's international prefix. i.e.if sending an inreach message to a USA number, who is roaming in Germany it will be an SMS from a USA number, not a German number?

  • this is about correct

sending an inreach message to a number with +1 country code will be delivered by a 'large account' provider with same country code.

How else should the garmin and the associated large account provider know where to send the message. They are sending it into normal mobile phone network, thats all
