Why do I get "an error occurred while processing your request"

We haven't had this Messenger for very long, and I'm trying to create some basic steps for our field staff to use it.  Every attempt to use the Messenger App on my phone, such as to set up Quick Messages or click on Position Reporting, gives me "An error occurred while processing your request."  What does that mean?  The device is connected, I'm signed in as the device owner, etc. 

  • Could be a transient problem with the Garmin servers. Based on forum posts, the back end servers are getting less and less reliable.

    The conventional wisdom would be to have the device and the phone (MESSenger app and operating system) forget one another. Then repeat the pairing from dust. There is no telling if this might help since the symptoms are vague. But it's likely to be the first thing support will suggest, followed by a factory reset on the device (and re-pairing, and repeating the outdoor portion of the activation).

    If the problem persists, open a support ticket. Support will want to know if your phone is Android or Apple.
