At my wits end.

I haven't used the device for a long time. It was always next to useless when I did previously use it (essentially could never get a lock on GPS, my phone was a better choice for navigation...). I have a trip coming up and would like to be able to use it in the event that it does magically get a GPS signal.

I cannot update the firmware. I have tried everything - two different computers, 4 different cables, I have factory reset the device and followed every possible piece of guidance available. There is no mechanism to contact Garmin in Australia from what I can see except a phone call within certain hours.

The main issue is trying to update the firmware, I cannot get my computer to register the device at all. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

This is a legacy device. It is not supported by Express. So that path is out.

I BELIEVE that you can use inReach Sync for this. See this KB article:

If that does not work, you will probably have to open a support ticket.

The failure to establish a GPS fix is not likely to be related to firmware, though.

As far as support goes, you are better off with phone or chat. Based on forum posts, email is next to useless. At least in US. Can't speak to Australia.
