INReach - Tread Overland - Preset Messages not syncing or contacts

I am really having difficulty getting this sorted out, 1 hour on phone to support, about 20 emails and still no preset message content or contacts syncing to my InReach from Garmin Explore Website through the Inreach Service on my Tread Overland Edition.

  • what type of account do you have?

presets text can be changed afaik only when you are on a professional account

Address book however should synchronize when you correctly sync the device via smartphone with the messenger app on it for your account

  • Thanks for your reply. I have the most basic plan, the Messenger app is not compatible with the Tread Overland,  while the Explore App is compatible with the device itself it does not support InReach features , such as the contacts and preset message text should sync as per all Garmin literature, through the InReach via the Web Explore Page. It's doesn't do this however. I have spoken with one of the many Garmin help desk chaps and he said both these should sync as I have described.

  • oh sorry, I did not read all well, Tred Overland is not messenger, I thought just as we are in messenger here

  • Maybe this support article can be of some help: Syncing, Adding, and Deleting Garmin Explore Data on a Tread Device.

Don't have experience with the Tread series of devices myself, but as I read it you need to configure the device with the Tread app and not with the Explore app. The article Device Compatibility With the Garmin Explore App also seems to confirm this.

  • Thanks for your reply  the below link is not clear Device Compatibility With the Garmin Explore App it mentions the Tread Overland does NOT support the Explore App, please scroll down to Tread section.

And yet here :  Adding, and Deleting Garmin Explore Data on a Tread Device it mentions that preset messages, contact will all sync through the Explore App, it doesnt, in fact the Tread Overland is displayed under unsupported devices in the Explore App on my Android. I have deleted the Explore APP and reinstalled.

And here https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=N24PwWmzEo6Gc6IhdonukA it mentions that all data will sync through the Tread app from the Explore Website to a paired connected Tread Overland Device. It goes on to mention the InReach Data requires an active subscription ( which I have ) to sync contact. preset messages and quick message content. Which however it clearly doesnt.

  • Maybe I didn't express myself clearly, but what I meant to say is that the Garmin support article mentions that the Tread is NOT compatible with Garmin Explore app. The article states: "NOTE: These devices come pre-installed with Garmin Explore app information. They are not compatible with the Garmin Explore smartphone app. Garmin Explore data is synced with the Tread® app."

The manual of the Tread Overland also mentions that you need the Tread app to sync Garmin Explore data:

Did you enable Garmin Explore on your Tread?

  • Thanks. Sorry, I didnt read your second paragraph quite correctly.

  • Yes, I have enabled Explore on the Tread,  I have deleted and reinstalled and paired again the Tread App on my phone. No change. Active InReach subscription confirmed, plan active, contacts exist, preset messages exist, quick messages exist on Explore website. Device is connected and I have reconnected and synced again. No change.

  • Is inReach also activated on the Tread itself? The unit needs to communicate with the inReach network before the service is fully activated. See https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=qpXr3rwoq3AaBEFTqtG7E8

Other than that not sure what could be the issue. Unfortunately there’s no dedicated Tread forum so not sure if others can help.

Not sure where you’re based but maybe Garmin US support via chat can offer some help. I have found them more knowledgeable than local country support.

  • Thanks again. Yes the InReach is activated and it functions with the test messages I send, I just cant see to whom or what I am sending ( Presets).

I have been on a telephone call for 1 hour with US support, I was transferred 8 times, eventually coming back to the same person I spoke with who was very frustrated that nobody seems to have much knowledge about the Tread with InReach functionality. I have long lists of emails with Garmin support again being bounced around the court like a ball.
