Overheating when charging at 80 degrees

I just got my In Reach Messenger and charged it. It was charging in my house and the thermostat was set to 80 degrees. The Messenger kept making a loud screeching noise and the screen said it couldn't charge because it was overheating. Is this normal? How cool does it need to be for it to charge?

For reference, it was just sitting on a countertop at night, not in the sun or covered up, or anything that would make it hotter.
